Seeing Double!

I have finally managed to get the Teddy's varnished and framed. There are actually two paintings because I wanted to be able to paint a second following my own instructions to see if they were clear enough.  I am now busy writing my script for the DVD and will then begin the process of editing all the video clips and photos and compiling it all... I think I have a summer long project ahead of me :)

I thought you might like to see the two versions.... Its a bit like the game 'spot the differences' for although they are both pretty much the same there will always be small changes that make each painting unique. Both are varnished with liquitex satin varnish. I just love the effect it has on the painting as it really seems to enhance the texture of the paper and give the painting a rich glow. The colours are not acurate in these photos but they do give you an idea of the effect the satin varnish creates and the overall effect of the gallery wrap.

The first painting I have left as a bare gallery wrap. I've simply then added two D rings to the two sides, attached some wire to them and then hung as is.

The second I have put in a floater frame. The canvas then sits inside this frame with the sides still partially visible.

Turned out so beautifully, Ona. I have only varnished one of my watercolors, but I love how the varnish really punches the color.
I'm so impressed with your tackling the instructional videos. I really need to learn how to do that....one of these days.

Ona, both these are incredible to see online so in person must take one's breath away for sure. The shows around here won't let artists enter varnished works so I've not tried to do it. I know your DVD will be superb.

The thing is Jane its not hard to do at all... time consuming, yes, but once you have grasped the techniques of wanging and scribbling its very easy :) It had to be a pretty tame wang on the video. i couldnt shake the camera, besides I havent been too good the last couple of weeks... very wheezy and heart racing, so a lot of jumping up and down was out. You will just have to use your imagination about how i dance when I'm feeling ok :)

yes, it does punch the colour Diane and i love how it brings out the texture of the paper too.

Thats a shame Kay. CSPWC wont allow them but our local watercolour society do and several multimedia shows do too.

Ona...I'm just so HAPPY that you are a part of the Art Colony! I just relish your posts and discover newfound creative energy from your contribution. These teddies are so touching and I'm amazed that you could produce two such perfect renditions...in so little time no less! You are a wonder!

These are darling, Ona! I will be anxious to buy your video. Will you be covering the vanishing process, as well? Hope you are feeling better real soon. Take care of yourself.

I'm happy to be part of Art Coolony too Mary :) I'm glad my pixie has inspired Memse

Yes Cindy. I have video'd and photographed right from beginning to end. I'm planning to do the DVD in 4 sections

1. how to make your gallery wrap
2. how to create the dark background
3. how to create fur
4. how to fix, varnish and hang the finished painting.

Thanks Suzy:)

I love the floater frames and plan to order one today to see how it looks on mine. I love the back and forth ideas and wealth of sharing and new directions I get from this blog. I've been doing my own video for a week now, just the first ten minutes (part one). I'm sure with the learning curve, it'll get better and take less time.

Your work rocks Ona.

Thank you all :) yes, the floater frames present a painting done in this way really well don't they. Its a lot cheaper than matting and framing when getting them custom made too
