Challenge, White or Red? Dragon Breath, Two and Siamese Blue Rose

White Challenge? Red Challenge?

DRAGON BREATH #1
artist Vernita Bridges Hoyt 2012
watercolor on 8x8 inch Arches 140# cp paper
Deciding to challenge myself with a new subject, I began this as a white challenge in early January. Well, now on the last day of January, I'm thinking maybe it's better for the red challenge. I guess it could go either way ... but I did post even if it is a bit cartoonish. This was a learning experience for me. I've never painted a dragon before and had not a clue what I was doing so went off and did a little research and decided to do this study painting. It still needs work but I'm calling it done. I want to paint another out of my imagination but make it better.

MADISON IS TWO
a watercolor portrait in progress

I am still working on a couple of children's portraits ... this one of Madison I think you may have seen. This is the last work in progress image although I've taken this a bit farther now. I sure hope I can finish this soon as there are two more baby portraits waiting in the wings.

Hoyt Valentine Siamese Blue Rose
Mixed Media Original
Digital Collage and Colored Pencil
8x10 inches

Then I decided I wanted to make some fun valentines on my computer but ended up adding hand applied colored pencil to the kitten for emphasis, so I am calling this a mixed media original of digital collage and colored pencil. I have two more similar yet different Valentines made but won't post them on my blog until Wednesday and Thursday. Click on the valentine image above to view detail and description. This Valentine and more are available at CnNTrends.Etsy.com

Nita, look how creative you have been and such a nice variety too! Bravo for trying something new and your portrait is so darn cute. I love that 'look' on the Valentine painting with the postage and writing. The other Valentine, with the rose, is stunning as well!

Oh yes! I saw these over at FB or your blog..,what a variety! The little dragon is a fun piece and I need to maybe begin putting the sidebar together for the Red challenge...if I forget anyone who has posted a red one please remind me! Now Madison! I laugh every time I see this piece...it is so precious...and such a pair of glasses...it is really a portrait that captures her personality and I love it!!! I am anxious for you to complete it as it is really a special piece! And your valentine! wow! you are getting good at this photoshop stuff too to bring in all these elements and your art...the kitty is precious in the middle and you have others! This is a fun way to work when you do not have alot of time all at once...you can sort of design through the day I bet and that is perfect!!!

Yes, the Valentine work can be laid down and picked up easily at any time. I am so anxious to finish the portrait of Madison. It is just for fun or I would have finished it long ago. Madison is my little step-grandaughter. She and her sister are both such cuties, but M really favors her grandfather, my late dh.

Goodness, Nita...you've been really busy. I love how you can do so many different media techniques and have them all turn out beautifully. Love the little dragon guy (Mary will love him too). Think my fav is of Madison...I've been watching your blog and love how she's so joyous in that big laugh. She's precious. Wish I knew how to do some play stuff on the computer...be happy that you're not "challenged" like moi. Thanks for posting what you're doing.

Wow Nita! I'm passing the digital diva hat to you! This is fantastic! I just love it!
Everyone, check Nita's store over at Etsy...it's pretty classy. I started one myself but it doesn't have half the things Nita has! (I'm still learning!)

And your portrait of Madison is so dear! She looks like she's having the time of her life!

Oh! And I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE dragons! They are my emblem, (they called me dragon lady in school because I drew them all the time. It was no surprise to discover I was born in the year of the dragon, ha!) This guy is so adorable Nita! If he weren't so hot I'd pick him up in the cup of my hands and shower him with kisses!

Nita, three distinctly different pieces from one person ! ( You sure we're not sisters? ) And all so clever and well done. You and Mary need to start a graphic business together !

Love the dragon, sharing a birthday year with him is a real turn on thrill. The portrait is super, too, but the valentine really grabs my attention.

Love that portrait of Madison! The valentines card is wonderful! I like the transparent layers that you got on it. You and Mary are so clever. Where do you find the time to do all of that? Nita, you mentioned that you are still interested in the miniature shows. I hope that you enter the Seaside show. Go to the Seaside Gallery's website and ask for a prospectus. Find it on google. I don't know the address by heart.

What a fun, interesting grouping to see. Love each one of them. You are an inspiration to try new things. I wish I had a clone to do all the things I want to do.
